Struggling to find his place in the world while juggling school and family, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales is unexpectedly bitten by a radioactive spider and develops unfathomable powers just like the one and only Spider-Man. Miles Morales, not Peter Parker, is the lead character in the new animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the latest venture from Sony and Marvel. The movie follows Miles as he develops his spider powers and teams up with various versions of Spider-Man to take down the nefarious Kingpin and his machine. The movie offers a refreshing take on a beloved character and a unique visual style that combines traditional comic book drawings with 3D and 2D animation. The voice work from the ensemble cast is excellent and the writing is filled with humor and heart. (CASTELLANO) *Spider-Man: Un nuevo universo* es un peliculón. Una de las mejores películas que se han hecho sobre Spider-Man y, sinceramente, bastante mejor que muchas de sus versiones de imagen real. Consigue algo que parecía casi imposible: recuperar a un personaje que hemos visto una y otra vez y hacer que vuelva a sentirse nuevo. Miles Morales no es Peter Parker, y ahí está una de las grandes decisiones de la película. No intenta sustituirlo ni copiarlo. Tiene su propia familia, su manera de hablar, sus dudas y una vida en la que todavía no sabe muy bien dónde encaja. Es inteligente y tiene talento, pero también se siente inseguro, torpe y superado por todo lo que ocurre. Su transformación en Spider-Man funciona porque no llega de inmediato. Miles no recibe los poderes y se convierte automáticamente en un héroe. Tiene miedo, falla, no controla su cuerpo y ni siquiera sabe si está preparado para hacer lo que todos esperan de él. La película entiende que ponerse la máscara no basta: primero hay que encontrar una razón para llevarla. Y entonces aparece el multiverso, que podía haber convertido la historia en un caos imposible de seguir. Sin embargo, se utiliza de una forma muy inteligente. Cada versión de Spider-Man tiene una personalidad, un diseño y un ritmo propios, pero todas comparten la misma idea: cualquiera puede caer, equivocarse y volver a levantarse. Peter B. Parker es especialmente bueno. No es el héroe perfecto que llega para enseñarle todo al protagonista, sino un Spider-Man cansado, descuidado y bastante derrotado por su propia vida. Su relación con Miles funciona porque ambos se ayudan sin darse cuenta. Uno necesita aprender a empezar y el otro recordar por qué merece la pena continuar. Spider-Gwen también está muy bien. Tiene presencia, personalidad y una historia propia que no parece introducida únicamente para ampliar el reparto. Incluso los personajes más extravagantes, como Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker o Spider-Ham, encuentran su sitio sin romper el tono de la película. Visualmente es una barbaridad. No se limita a imitar un cómic: parece haber encontrado la manera de hacer que un cómic se mueva. Los puntos de impresión, las líneas cinéticas, los bocadillos, los cambios de estilo y la combinación de diferentes tipos de animación convierten cada escena en algo vivo. Al principio puede resultar incluso demasiado intensa porque siempre hay algo sucediendo en la pantalla. Pero poco a poco entiendes que esa saturación forma parte del mundo de Miles. Todo es rápido, colorido, ruidoso y confuso porque así se siente él mientras intenta comprender lo que le está pasando. La acción está magníficamente rodada. Las persecuciones y peleas tienen velocidad, sentido del espacio y una creatividad que muchas películas de superhéroes de imagen real ni siquiera intentan. La animación permite hacer cosas imposibles, pero nunca pierde el peso ni la sensación de peligro. También tiene muchísimo humor. Hay bromas visuales, referencias a otras versiones del personaje y momentos que se ríen con cariño de todo lo que ya conocemos sobre Spider-Man. Pero no es una película construida solo con guiños para los fans. El corazón de la historia sigue siendo Miles. La relación con su padre y con su tío da a la película una fuerza emocional enorme. No son simples personajes secundarios colocados para hacer avanzar la trama. Representan dos maneras distintas de mirar a Miles y también dos caminos entre los que él debe encontrar el suyo. La película habla de identidad, de miedo, de expectativas y de la necesidad de aceptar que nunca vamos a sentirnos completamente preparados. Su idea central es sencilla, pero poderosa: no existe un momento mágico en el que dejamos de tener dudas. En algún momento solo queda dar el salto. Y esa escena funciona porque todo lo anterior nos ha llevado hasta ella. No es únicamente una exhibición visual espectacular. Es el momento en el que Miles deja de intentar ser como los demás y se convierte finalmente en su propia versión de Spider-Man. *Spider-Man: Un nuevo universo* trae un nuevo protagonista, introduce el multiverso y juega con décadas de historia del personaje, pero nunca olvida contar una buena historia. Tiene humor, emoción, acción, personajes memorables y una animación que cambió la manera de entender este tipo de cine. Muy, muy recomendable. (ENGLISH) *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse* is an outstanding film. It is one of the best Spider-Man movies ever made and, honestly, better than many of the live-action versions. It achieves something that seemed almost impossible: taking a character we have seen repeatedly and making him feel new again. Miles Morales is not Peter Parker, and that is one of the film’s smartest choices. He is not designed to replace or copy him. He has his own family, voice, doubts and a life in which he still does not know where he belongs. He is intelligent and talented, but also insecure, clumsy and overwhelmed by everything happening around him. His transformation works because it does not happen instantly. Miles receives powers but does not automatically become a hero. He is frightened, fails repeatedly and cannot control what his body is doing. The film understands that wearing the mask is not enough: first, he needs to discover why he wants to carry it. Then the multiverse appears, something that could easily have turned the story into an impossible mess. Instead, it is used with great intelligence. Every Spider-Man has a different personality, design and rhythm, but all of them share the same idea: anyone can fall, fail and find a way to stand again. Peter B. Parker is especially good. He is not the perfect hero arriving to teach the protagonist everything, but a tired, careless Spider-Man who has been defeated by his own life. His relationship with Miles works because they help one another without fully realizing it. One needs to learn how to begin, while the other needs to remember why continuing is worthwhile. Spider-Gwen also works extremely well. She has presence, personality and her own emotional history. Even the stranger characters, including Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham, find a place without destroying the film’s tone. Visually, the film is extraordinary. It does not merely imitate a comic book; it feels as though somebody discovered how to make comic art move. Printing dots, motion lines, captions, changing styles and different forms of animation make every scene feel alive. At first, it can almost seem too intense because something is always happening on screen. Gradually, however, that saturation becomes part of Miles’s experience. Everything is fast, colourful, loud and confusing because that is how the world feels to him. The action is brilliantly staged. The chases and fights have speed, spatial clarity and a creativity that many live-action superhero films never attempt. Animation allows the filmmakers to do impossible things without losing the weight or danger of the action. It is also extremely funny. There are visual jokes, references to earlier versions and moments that affectionately mock everything familiar about Spider-Man. Yet the film is not built only from fan service. Miles always remains at its centre. His relationships with his father and uncle give the story enormous emotional force. They are not simply supporting figures used to move the plot. They represent different ways of seeing Miles and different paths from which he must create his own. The film is about identity, fear, expectations and accepting that we may never feel completely prepared. Its main idea is simple but powerful: there is no magical moment when all doubt disappears. Eventually, we simply have to take the leap. That moment works because everything before it has earned it. It is not only a spectacular visual sequence. It is the moment Miles stops trying to become somebody else and finally becomes his own Spider-Man. *Into the Spider-Verse* gives us a new protagonist, introduces the multiverse and plays with decades of Spider-Man history without ever forgetting to tell a great story. It has humour, emotion, action, memorable characters and animation that changed how this kind of film could look. Highly recommended. One of the greatest Spider-Man films ever made and proof that familiar characters never become exhausted when someone finds a genuinely new perspective.
