Anaconda (2025)

(CASTELLANO) Volver a *Anaconda* no parecía precisamente una gran idea. La original de los noventa ya era bastante penosa, así que hacer otra versión podía acabar en un desastre todavía mayor. Pero la nueva película entiende algo básico: si vas a recuperar un título así, más vale no tomártelo demasiado en serio. Paul Rudd y Jack Black son la principal razón por la que funciona. Los dos saben moverse muy bien dentro de una comedia absurda y tienen suficiente carisma como para levantar escenas que, sobre el papel, no tendrían demasiada gracia. Su química es natural y da la sensación de que se lo están pasando bien, algo que termina contagiándose. La película juega con la idea de rehacer una película mala, con personajes que saben que están entrando en un proyecto absurdo y con una industria incapaz de dejar descansar cualquier título reconocible. Ese enfoque autorreferencial tiene más interés que un simple remake y permite reírse tanto de la original como del Hollywood actual. No todos los chistes funcionan. Algunos son demasiado fáciles, otros se alargan más de la cuenta y hay momentos en los que la película confía demasiado en que Jack Black grite o haga alguna tontería. Aun así, sí tiene gracia en varias escenas y al menos intenta convertir su propia falta de sentido en parte del espectáculo. Paul Rudd aporta un humor más seco y relajado, mientras que Jack Black va siempre varios niveles por encima. El contraste entre ambos sostiene bastante bien la película. Cuando el guion se dispersa, ellos consiguen mantener cierto ritmo simplemente por la forma en que reaccionan a todo lo que ocurre. La parte de aventura y terror es más irregular. La serpiente gigante aparece cuando tiene que aparecer, hay persecuciones, sustos y muertes, pero la película nunca quiere ser realmente aterradora. Todo está filtrado por la parodia y por la conciencia de que estamos viendo una versión cómica de una historia ya ridícula desde su origen. Los efectos tampoco son extraordinarios. La anaconda sigue teniendo momentos en los que parece demasiado digital y pierde cualquier sensación de amenaza. Pero casi da igual, porque la película nunca pretende que nos la tomemos completamente en serio. El problema surge cuando intenta crear tensión real y la imagen no acompaña. También se nota cierto desorden. Hay personajes, bromas y situaciones que parecen colocados porque alguien pensó que podían funcionar por separado, aunque no siempre encajen bien dentro del conjunto. La historia avanza a trompicones y no todos los secundarios tienen el mismo peso. Sin embargo, tiene más interés que la película de los noventa. No porque sea una gran obra, sino porque entiende mejor sus propias limitaciones. La original quería que creyéramos en una aventura terrorífica y terminó siendo involuntariamente cómica. Esta asume desde el principio que el material es ridículo y trata de aprovecharlo. El resultado es una comedia de aventuras ligera, autoconsciente y bastante inofensiva. No reinventa nada, no da miedo y tampoco alcanza el nivel de las mejores parodias cinematográficas. Pero hay chistes, hay química entre sus protagonistas y se pasa un rato razonablemente entretenido. Se puede ver. Y teniendo en cuenta de dónde parte, eso ya es bastante. (ENGLISH) Returning to *Anaconda* never sounded like a particularly good idea. The original from the 1990s was already a fairly terrible film, so making another version could easily have produced an even bigger disaster. This new film, however, understands one essential thing: if you are going to revive a title like this, you had better not take it too seriously. Paul Rudd and Jack Black are the main reason it works. Both are very comfortable inside absurd comedy and have enough charisma to rescue scenes that would not be especially funny on the page. Their chemistry feels natural, and they appear to be enjoying themselves, which eventually becomes contagious. The film plays with the idea of remaking a bad movie, with characters who know they are entering a ridiculous project and with an industry incapable of allowing any recognisable title to remain untouched. That self-aware approach is more interesting than a straightforward remake and lets the film mock both the original and modern Hollywood. Not every joke works. Some are too obvious, others continue for too long, and there are moments when the film relies too heavily on Jack Black shouting or behaving foolishly. Even so, several scenes are genuinely funny, and the film at least tries to make its own absurdity part of the entertainment. Paul Rudd provides a drier, more relaxed style of humour, while Jack Black operates several levels above everyone else. The contrast between them holds the film together surprisingly well. Whenever the screenplay loses direction, their reactions are often enough to maintain some momentum. The adventure and horror elements are more uneven. The giant snake appears when expected, and there are chases, scares and deaths, but the film never seriously wants to frighten us. Everything is filtered through parody and through the awareness that we are watching a comic version of a story that was ridiculous from the beginning. The effects are not extraordinary either. The anaconda still looks excessively digital at times and loses any real sense of danger. That does not matter too much because the film never asks us to take it completely seriously. The problem appears whenever it attempts genuine suspense and the image cannot support it. There is also a certain amount of disorder. Characters, jokes and situations sometimes feel included because somebody thought they might work individually, even when they do not fit smoothly into the whole. The story moves unevenly, and not every supporting character receives the same attention. Still, it is more interesting than the 1990s film. Not because it is a great achievement, but because it understands its own limitations more clearly. The original wanted us to believe in a terrifying adventure and became unintentionally funny. This version accepts from the beginning that the material is ridiculous and tries to use that fact. The result is a light, self-aware and harmless adventure comedy. It reinvents nothing, offers very little genuine horror and never reaches the level of the best movie parodies. But it has jokes, strong chemistry between its leads and enough energy to provide a reasonably entertaining time. It is watchable. Considering where it started, that is already something.
